Qualifications:   Mid to Senior level operations position. The candidates for this position must demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and proficiency in the operations, maintenance, and repair of gas turbine based cogeneration plants with an emphasis in controls and instrumentation capability. Generally, a minimum of three years in the Navy or Maritime shipboard experience or specific cogeneration plant experience will be required. Knowledge and experience with industrial process steam systems is necessary.  Navy or Merchant Marine experience is a plus and Allison 501 gas turbine experience and knowledge of Allen Bradley computers a plus.

General Description: International Power Technology of San Jose, CA is seeking a qualified individual that will be stationed in the Toronto, Ontario area under a long term service support contract that IPT holds with its customer. The site is a 2 unit Allison 501 gas turbine cogeneration facility that employs a 501-KB5 and a 501-KH Cheng Cycle. The cogeneration plant supplies steam and power to a large industrial complex located 30 km north of Toronto in the Vaughn, North York area. The successful candidate will work alone under minimum supervision and will be nominally scheduled on a dayshift Monday through Friday. Weekend and grave shift work may be required on an as-needed basis. Emergency on-call support is a requirement as well and therefore with extra compensation the operator will be required to be on call 24 hours per day. 

IPT’s customer has site operations staff that are responsible for the overall operation of the facility. The IPT On-site technician will work in parallel with these operators and will supplement their work. Training of these operators in the operation of the cogeneration plant will be part of the duties of the IPT Technician. The IPT Technician will work under the direct supervision of IPT and not IPT’s customer and will serve as liason between the customer and IPT for day to day operations.

The IPT on-site operator will mostly be working alone at the site in Toronto and will be working directly with IPT personnel to complete all required site duties. IPT has an in house technical and operations staff in California that will support the IPT Technician in all troubleshooting and task completion.

The successful candidate will be given a training course in California at IPT’s California Cheng Cycle cogeneration facility.

Examples of Duties:    Under minimum supervision duties include: journeyman level repairs and overhauls of all types of plant equipment; timely completion of projects and work assignments with a minimum of errors; effective communication with plant personnel and plant management; documentation and reporting of maintenance planned and performed; thorough knowledge and understanding of all plant maintenance, safety, and hazardous materials systems; instrument calibrations, power plant troubleshooting, minor generator, gearbox, turbine, and skid BOP system troubleshooting and repair; gearbox and generator monitoring and problem identification; steam system adjustments and minor maintenance; interface with Customer and IPT technical staff to resolve problems and implement solutions.

Special Requirements:   The IPT Technician must be capable of working alone in a highly mechanized industrial cogeneration setting. They must be able to interface with Customer management and operations staff and communication skills are essential. An in-depth technical understanding of and familiarization with gas turbine based cogeneration plant systems and sub systems including fuel oil, fuel gas, lube oil, cooling water, process steam, gas turbines, gearboxes, generators, low and high voltage, instrumentation, and plant performance characteristics are a pre-requisite.
